This is the latest information from the Rock Island Grand Prix kart races to be held Sept. 5-6 in Rock Island, Ill.

Late Entry Penalty Waived

The Rock Island Grand Prix organizing committee announced today (Aug. 26) that the $100 race weekend penalty for late entries will be waived for 2009. The entry fees that went into affect Friday, August 14, will be honored on race weekend. Drivers who wait until race weekend to enter, or who wish to add a class, will not be assessed the normal $100 penalty.

Drivers can enter online at http://www.rockislandgrandprix.com

Race Order Adjusted

We have made some adjustments to the race order to better accommodate racers competing in multiple classes. Some back-to-back conflicts may still remain, but we will work with those individual drivers to assure they are able to race their classes. Please let race director Terry Riggins know if you have specific problems.

Following is the amended race order:
1. King of Streets (spec Honda)
2. 4-cycle Animal Heavy
3. TAG Masters
4. 2-cycle Super Sportsman Heavy (4-hole can)
5. North American Street Championship (SKUSA S1)
6. TAG Senior
7. Tom Argy Jr. Sportsman (3-hole can)
8. 2-cycle Pipe Heavy (Yamaha & HPV)
9. 125cc shifter Masters (SKUSA G1)
10. 2-cycle Super Sportsman Medium (4-hole can)
11. TAG Junior
12. Rumble at The Rock (Animal Medium)
13. IAME Leopard
14. Rotax Senior / Rotax Masters

Tom Argy Junior Sportsman

In an earlier announcement concerning the reinstatement of the Junior 3-hole can class, the weight was not specified. This class will race at 315 pounds as it has in previous years. TAG Junior will run per TAG USA  rules.

Check your tires

In filling out their entry forms, several drivers have listed their intent to race a brand of tires that may not be legal for a specific class. Drivers competing in the three TAG classes must use a brand/compound approved under the TAG USA rules at tagracing.net. In addition, Mojo tires have also been approved for TAG classes at Rock Island. The Leopard class will also run TAG USA rules and tires.

Rotax drivers must race Mojo tires per Rotax Max Challenge rules.

Drivers competing in the King of The Streets spec moto class must use MG FZ tires per SKUSA rules.

All other classes are running open tire makes/compounds. Please double check to make sure you are running the correct tires. If you are not sure, please ask. All classes will qualify and race on the same tires.

Gearing for The Rock

We have had a number of inquiries regarding appropriate gearing for our event. Our office does not have this information. Please check with your local kart shop or another competitor. However it might be helpful to know that the longest straights are 750 feet long.
