ROCK ISLAND GRAND PRIX MARCH 2008 NEWSLETTER

Following is the latest information about the 2008 Rock Island Grand Prix, the world’s largest karting street race. Dates of this year’s race are August 30-31 and Presenting Sponsors are AT&T and Mazda. As always, if you would like to be removed from this list, please reply stating such and we will do so immediately.

REGISTRATION OPEN: Online registration is now open for this year’s race. If you go to our website at www.rockislandgrandprix.com you can enter directly through our secure site using a credit card. You can also print out the complete 8- page Entry Packet and send in your entry with a check. You may also call our office at (309) 292-8133 and ask to have the Entry Packet mailed to you. Postal notification that registration is now open is also being sent to everyone who is on our mailing list.

TAG SUPERPRO / TAG SENIOR:  This year we have added a TAG SuperPro event to the lineup. Rules state that TAG SuperPro is open to drivers who are in the Top 10 in Manufacturer’s Cup and Stars of Karting series, drivers who have won at Rock Island previously, and national ICC and ICA drivers making a one-off TAG race appearance at Rock Island. Drivers who have won Rotax, ROK, Easykart Grand Nationals or competed in these or similar events at the international level should also enter SuperPro. Other drivers may petition to enter this class – “petitioning” meaning you should go ahead and enter. You will be notified if your entry has NOT been accepted and moved to TAG Senior.

Please keep in mind that in all cases, you can enter TAG SuperPro or TAG Senior, but not both. Winner of the TAG Senior and Masters classes this year will be eligible for TAG SuperPro the following year, but NOT in 2008.

NEW CLASSES: Also added this year is a Stock Moto class that is sponsored by PG Racing. We have also morphed the Yamaha Heavy class into 2-cycle Pipe Heavy which now allows both HPVs and Yamahas. See Supplemental Rules for details. Dropped from the race program this year were Yamaha Medium and Intercontinental A.

125cc MASTERS: It has been announced previously that plans to introduce TAG Heavy at Rock Island in 2008 have been SUSPENDED and the 125cc Masters class has been REINSTATED. Competitors in 125cc Masters have until June 1, 2008 to produce a viable class of 20 or more entries, or organizers may choose to substitute another class.

JUNIORS: Once again we are running the Tom Argy Jr. Sportsman class. This is for Yamaha motors with a 3-hole can. Acceptance for this class requires that competitors submit a racing resume as specified in the Supplemental Rules. Drivers who have previously participated in this class do not have to submit a resume with their entry. Racing Resumes should be sent separately by mail, or by email to grandprix@qconline.com.

SHAKE THE DUST OFF: For those who may have lost a bit of the edge waiting for racing to resume, we highly recommend you consider the Bondurant SuperKart School in Phoenix, Arizona. They offer a variety of training programs for beginners on up, directed by Alan Rudolph. The Bondurant SuperKart School is also a long- time sponsor of the King of the Streets race at The Rock. Call Alan today at (480) 961-0143 or check them out at www.BondurantSuperKarts.com.

QUESTIONS: If you have any questions about this year’s races, they likely can be answered by reading the 8-page Entry Packet which is available online at www.rockislandgrandprix.com. It expected that all competitors have read the Supplemental Rules prior to entry. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to call or email our office.
